I Can’t Stop This Feelin’

September 20, 2010 at 2:17 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

I can’t help it, I really really really love Christmas stockings. It’s September and I can’t stop thinking about Christmas stockings, I must be losing it! Between rounds of yarn dying I’m whipping through my tub of worsted weight feltable (that word is made up but you know what I mean) yarn like it’s going out of style!

I made a couple of these Seussical lovlies from Alterknits Felt I think 2 years ago. Just 2, perfect for me and hubby to replace the hideous cotton ones I sewed a few years before that (I don’t really want to talk about it but it was poorly planned and even more poorly executed, can’t win ‘em all). This year I had the perfect excuse to start on a third, even though baby isn’t coming until January it can’t hurt to be prepared a year in advance and it was busting up my obscene stash. Then I started getting a little carried away and excited about colour combinations and well, I’m working on the fourth and have already planned the stiping pattern for the fifth, maybe I’ll just have to make enough for my parents, brothers, and my own little family…..

GC Yarn at Pick Up Sticks

September 13, 2010 at 11:30 am (Uncategorized)

Well I am just tickled pink to announce that GC Cashmere yarn is now available at Pick up Sticks, a charming little shop in Ontario. The shop owner, Connie, contacted me a few months ago looking to carry some Canadian content in her shop. She already carries some of my faves, like Sweetgeorgia, so I was honoured she wanted to carry mine too!

Pick up Sticks is both an online and physical shop that offers some lovely yarns. Lots of lace and sock to choose from! You can check them out here. They’ve now got Gourmet Crafter Cashmere in many of our local Canadian colourways.

A Weekend of Crafting

September 7, 2010 at 10:05 am (Uncategorized)

Last weekend I headed out to the ferry to hang out with my dear friend and fellow crafter, miss Emily. While we had many ideas for the weekend but we ultimately ended up crafting, eating, and talking the weekend away. While we were sitting down to a lovely breakfast on Saturday we were discussing one of the knitting folk universals: something almost all knitterly individuals seem to have in common. Knitters are the kind of people who always appreciate the little things in life. One of our personal favorites is a delicious pastery. While it may seem like a small thing, we always love something sweet and flaky, or crumbly, or whatever. We’re not too picky as long as it’s yummy. I think this is because knitters are the kind of people who will take many hours to create something that could be purchased easily and often for little money.

The other endeavour of the weekend was Emily’s first quilt. When I quilt, I tend to look towards geometry and attempt to create corners that meet and straight lines.

This is what I really appreciate about Emily: she doesn’t care about any of those things! She decided to create a quilt just out of her own head, with some super funky fabrics, bright thread, and a $20 sewing machine. That takes some quilting guts! Of course, it turned out wonderfully and she almost finished a beautiful baby quilt in a weekend, just a binding to finish. What a great crafter!

We spent the weekend discussing an upcoming joint project, more details of which will most certainly follow but I thought I would throw some pictoral sneak peeks here:
